Sitges Bitches…..oh & Barcelona too! #30things

So the next stop on the Hayley #30things tour was Sitges & Barcelona. Now until a few months before booking i’d never heard of Sitges so I did a little research & it’s basically the Gay Mecca of Europe! It’s about 45mins south of Barcelona out on the coast. We got a private taxi minibus from the airport which we booked online prior to departure for about €80 between 8 of us which we thought was a pretty good deal. Saved the hassle of finding the train station, 2 train lines & a walk to the hotel after a 4am wake up call for an early Ryanair flight out of Manchester Airport.

We arrived at our hotel, Hotel Platjador, earlier than our official check in time. The location was excellent, right on the beachfront & within a few minutes walk to the nightlife, but far enough away for it not to cause any noise issues. The staff were extremely helpful & polite & allowed us to check in to the 1 room which was ready so we could all dump our bags & head off down to the beach.

Hotel Platjador is highly recommended! The staff were amazingly helpful & polite. The breakfast was excellent, full range of cooked breakfast, continental, pastries, coffee & when in Spain…..cava! To be honest there is probably a lot of things to see in Sitges, however we spent most of our time on the beach, in the hotel pool, having our free afternoon pastries on the hotel balcony & filling our bellies with gorgeous food & cocktails!

Obviously the whole point of these holidays & #30things was Hayley’s 30th birthday. Again we spend the day on the beach & by the pool whilst she spent 3hrs having her nails done due to lack of knowing the local lingo! The evening however was spent in a gorgeous restaurant at the end of the beachfront & a walk up to the church to explor the other side of Sitges.

The night ended with some rather drink holiday makers!

After 5 nights in Sitges, the extremely lovely staff at Platjador arranged a private taxi to take us to Barcelone where we spent the next 2 nights at Room Mate Pau. An excellent location just a minutes walk from Placa de Catalunya

We spent the first day wandering around Barcelona, down Las Ramblas & taking in the sights of La Sagrada Familia & the Gothic Quarter.

As part of Hayleys’s birthday present off her sister Karen, we did a guided Segway tour around Barcelona. This took in most of the sights around the Gothic Quarter & the waterfront Marina.

Segway was such a blast! It took about 10mins to get to grips with the way the Segway worked but once we got going it was amazing! We finished off the day by getting the underground to the Espanya stop to see the Magic Fountain of Montjuic. This is a spectacular display of light, motion, colour, music & water acrobatics. It’s free to visit it check the days you visits as it isn’t on on Mon-Weds nights. But this is what you could see!

The following day we did the obligatory city bus tour. This was with City Sightseeing Tours. They offer 3 different routes. The blue route covers most of Gaudi’s iconic work.

The red route covers the rest of the cities sights & the green route covers the beach & marina areas. The buses offer headphones with multiple languages to cover most visitors & open top to take advantage of the beautiful weather we had whilst there at the beginning of August.

So our time celebrating Hayley’s 30th had to come to an end & so we made our way back to Barcelona airport, temporarily halted with the potential of a Ryanair 3hr delay as we’d missed our slot….queue furious tweeting about Ryanair incompetence! But 15mins passed & somehow we managed to sneak a slot & off we flew homeward bound in need of another holiday to recover!

Happy birthday Hayley! I hope your 30th was full of #30fabulousthings!
