Brompton Lakes #30things

Well the time came for Hayley’s big 30th birthday holidays. First stop was Brompton Lakes near Ripon for a family long weekend in some luxury lodges. There were 12 adults & 3 kids split between 2 lodges. Each lodge had its own name & was situated on the banks of the fishing lake. We had picked Charlie & Florence lodges as they were next to each other & some of the dog friendly lodges.

We arrived 3pm on the Friday afternoon & the lodges were ready for us to get straight in. Very lovely decorated, each with its own style. 3 large double bedrooms, 1 which was en suite & then a family bathroom. Lovely open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area with full length glass doors opening out onto the large decked balcony overlooking the lake & of course the obligatory lodge wood burning fire.

The Saturday started off with a quick trip to Richmond market for BBQ supplies. A small town, not much of a market to be honest & a pain with permit holder only parking (which you can actually get free from any shop which we found out after we’d climbed a huge hill from the bottom car park!). So back to the lodges we went to spend the day in the hot tub area. Hayley & Naomi had kindly booked the hot tub area for everyone for the day at a cost of £80. This gave us access from 12pm onwards to a gated & fenced in area with log burning hot tub & sauna with table chairs, towels, bathrobes & BBQ equipment. An excellent day to spend in the sun drinking prosecco!

After a very ‘tiring’ day lazing about in the hot tub we decided to put the pedal to the metal & get our bums on some bikes which were free to hire for the length of your stay. Myself, Frankie, Hayley, Cath, Ted & Louis set out on a mini biking tour of Easby. We didn’t have any idea where we were going, had brief directions off staff at the lodges which resulted in a rather random scenic tour of a caravan/camping site about half a mile from Brompton Lakes! After that delightful tour we headed back on the country road.

We followed signs for Easby, came across some of the locals……

 and the old abbey ruins……
and managed to get the obligatory group cycle selfie!

We had to take full advantage of the lodges facilities & finished off the day with some twilight tennis matches on the lodges court. Some wonderful tennis played & some outstanding ball boy/girl manoeuvres. Again all free of charge, rackets & balls in a waterproof box within the court.

The whole weekend was geared to Hayley’s 30th birthday with the prosecco flowing along with the tears! A great weekend had by all. Next birthday stop….Sitges & Barcelona!
